Other Historically Significant Baseball People
Baseball's Other Characters
This is a section of my PC reserved for other players I simply liked, or hold an important place in baseball history that's not covered by the milestone clubs. You'll see lots of Braves here (as I am a Braves fan after all)- but you will also see guys like Johnny Vander Meer; who is the only pitcher in baseball history to throw consecutive no-hitters. Or guys like Fernando Valenzuela who captivated an entire nation with "Fernando-mania". Or even guys like Chauncey Leopardi, who played "Squints" in my beloved Sandlot. This is the home of baseball's other characters.
This collection includes Autos, Bats/Jerseys, RCs, and bobbleheads that I have of any player, manager, or person I've deemed significant to the history of baseball.

Abraham Lincoln
Andres Galarraga
Andruw Jones
Reason: An all-time great Brave, and should-be HOFer.
"Keeping up with the Jones'." That phrase is only true with Chipper, and this guy. One of the greatest defensive players of all-time (10x Gold Glover). He was a huge part of the '90s Braves dynasty I grew up watching. Andruw was a Brave from 1996 as a rookie, through the 2007 season. He was a 5x All-Star, and hit over 400 HR. |
Bo Jackson
Bob Horner
Brian McCann
Brian Wilson
Bryce Harper
Buddy Lewis
Carl Erskine
Carlos Beltran
Carlos Delgado
Clayton Kershaw
Dale Murphy
Deion Sanders
Fernando Valenzuela
Reason: Fernando-Mania
Fernando-mania gripped an entire country, and inspired a new region of the world to embrace baseball. He was also pretty dang good, winning Rookie of The Year, the 1981 World Series, and the 1981 CY Young. He had a captivating windup, as he looked to the sky, before he made a move towards the plate to pitch. Fernando-mania, and the man himself were straight out of the storybooks. |
Freddie Freeman
Harry Caray
Jeff Idelson
Johan Santana
John Rocker
Johnny Sain
Johnny Vander Meer
Reason: Only Pitcher in History to Throw Consecutive No-Hitters
On June 11th, 1938 Vander Meer threw a no-hitter against the Boston Braves for the Cincinatti Reds. 4 days later, he threw another in his next start on June 15th, 1938 against the Brooklyn Dodgers (at the first-ever night game at Ebbetts Field). It is a record that has never been tied, and may never be broken. |
Jose Canseco*
Reason: Home Run Smasher, and Steroid-Era Trasher
Canseco was a really good power hitter as a bash brother. It was because he was on steroids. However, his writing of "Juiced" where he admits to steroid use, and accuses several others of being users (all proven to be juicers by the way, sans Ivan Rodriguez)- was monumental. It helped further expose how rampant steroids were in baseball during a dark time for the sport. |
Juan Soto
Ken Griffey Sr.
Kevin Costner
Lonnie Smith
Manny Machado
Mark Fidrych
Martin Prado
Matthew Berry
Maury Wills
Reason: The Sandlot
The Sandlot is my FAVORITE movie ever. During the movie, Smalls says "I should've had a lot going on that summer, after all- it was the year Maury Wills would break the stolen bases record." I idolized that movie, and outside of Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron- Maury Wills is the only other baseball player mentioned by name. |
